Cory Greiner, Camp Director & Head Coach
Cory Greiner joined the Emory men’s soccer program as an assistant coach in August 2013. He was appointed interim head coach prior to the start of the 2017 season and was later named the program’s full-time head coach in December 2017.
In his first season as interim head coach, Greiner led the Eagles to heights the program hadn’t seen in nearly 30 years, reaching the NCAA Elite Eight for just the second time in program history and the first time since 1988. The Eagles finished the season with a 15-5-2 overall record, the second-highest win total in a single season. Under his leadership, four players earned All-UAA honors, and three were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team.
During his four seasons as an assistant coach, Greiner helped guide the Eagles to a 43-20-7 overall record and an NCAA Tournament berth in 2014. Emory finished second in the University Athletic Association in 2013, third in 2014, and fourth in 2015 and 2016.
With Greiner on staff, the Eagles have amassed one All-America honor, four all-region awards, and 20 all-conference certificates over four seasons.
Clayton Schmitt, Camp Director & Associate Head Coach
The 2017 season marked Clayton Schmitt’s second stint as an assistant coach for the Emory men’s soccer team. That year was among the best in program history, as the Eagles finished 15-5-2 and reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III Soccer Tournament.
Schmitt rejoined the Eagles’ program after spending the 2014–2016 seasons at Oglethorpe University, where he served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. He helped the Stormy Petrels to a 24-20-7 overall record during those three seasons, including Southern Athletic Association regular-season titles in 2015 and 2016.
Schmitt’s first stint as an assistant at Emory ran from June 2011 through April 2014. During that tenure, he helped the Eagles achieve a 31-20-4 record, including a 2012 University Athletic Association co-championship and a second-round appearance in the NCAA Tournament. His primary responsibilities centered on coaching the Emory goalkeepers while assisting in other areas of the program.
